WHAT IT IS

What a 4 Inch Shoe Lift Does

A 4 inch shoe lift (about 10 cm) is the largest standard height we build, and we go beyond it — 5″ and 6″ extended lifts are available at $20 per additional inch. At this size the lift is an orthopedic device first and a shoe second, so the build is all about stability: a wide heel base, a full rocker profile, a honeycomb core to hold the weight down, and rigid material throughout.

Height band: 3 1/8″ – 4″ (7.9–10.2 cm). Price: from $164.99 per pair, any shoe type, free shipping both ways. Turnaround: work completed in 1–3 business days once your shoes arrive.

Who a 4 Inch Lift Is For

  • A measured leg length difference of roughly 3 1/8″ to 4″, or larger.
  • Patients with significant congenital shortening, post-polio or post-trauma differences, or those preparing for limb-lengthening surgery.
  • People correcting in stages who have reached the top of the range.
  • Anyone currently wearing a heavy custom shoe or a home-built block who wants a lighter, purpose-built lift in a normal shoe.

This page is general guidance, not medical advice. For any difference over about 1/2″, or if you have pain, confirm the lift height with your doctor or physical therapist first. Our page on signs you need a shoe lift includes a tool to find a specialist near you.

HOW WE BUILD IT

How We Build a 4″ Lift

The sole is split and a full-length layer is bonded and shaped to the final height. The heel base is widened well beyond the shoe outline for lateral stability; the forefoot is tapered into a full rocker so the step rolls; the outer surface is finished to match the sole. Extended lifts above 4″ are built the same way with a proportionally wider base.

At 4″ and above we build with the honeycomb core and rigid material as standard recommendations — the core keeps weight manageable and the rigid material stops any flex or twist. Send a boot or a high-top sneaker with a wide outsole and a firm heel counter; we will tell you honestly if a shoe is not suitable before we start.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

4 Inch Shoe Lift Questions

Click any question to expand the answer.

How high can you build a shoe lift?

Our standard table goes to 4″. Beyond that we build extended lifts to 5″ and 6″ at $20 per additional inch over 4″. For anything above 4″, email us a photo of the shoe and your prescribed height first so we can confirm the shoe is suitable.

Is a 4 inch lift stable?

Built with a widened heel base, rocker taper and rigid material, yes. Stability comes from the base width and the shoe’s own heel counter, which is why we only build this height into boots and high-top sneakers.

How heavy will the shoe be?

Heavier than the other shoe — there is no way around adding four inches of material. The honeycomb core removes a large share of the weight, which is why we build it in at this height.

Do you work with surgeons and prosthetists?

Yes. We build to prescribed heights and can ship directly to a clinic. See our page for doctors and clinicians.

What does a 4 inch shoe lift cost?

3 1/8″–3 1/2″ is $164.99 and 3 5/8″–4″ is $179.99 per pair, shipping included both ways. Each additional inch over 4″ is $20. Honeycomb +$9.99, rigid material +$19.99. See shoe lift pricing.
