WHAT IT IS

What a 1 Inch Shoe Lift Does

A 1 inch shoe lift (2.5 cm) is the height where most people first ask a doctor about surgery and are told a lift is the better place to start. It is also the height where craftsmanship shows: a good 1″ build is full-length, tapered at the toe, colour-matched, and light. A bad one is a heavy block glued under the heel. Ours is the first kind.

Height band: 7/8″ – 1″ (22–25 mm (2.5 cm)). Price: $84.99 per pair, any shoe type, free shipping both ways. Turnaround: work completed in 1–3 business days once your shoes arrive.

Who a 1 Inch Lift Is For

  • A measured leg length difference around 7/8″ to 1″, from birth, from a childhood fracture, or after surgery.
  • Larger differences (1.5″ or more) where a doctor or PT wants to start with a partial correction and step up over time.
  • People who have been told they need a lift and assumed it meant orthopedic shoes — it doesn’t. We modify the shoes you already own.
  • Active people: a properly built 1″ lift works in running shoes, hiking boots and work boots.

This page is general guidance, not medical advice. For any difference over about 1/2″, or if you have pain, confirm the lift height with your doctor or physical therapist first. Our page on signs you need a shoe lift includes a tool to find a specialist near you.

HOW WE BUILD IT

How We Build a 1″ Lift

We split the sole and bond in a 1″ full-length layer. The forefoot is tapered so the shoe still bends at the ball of the foot and rolls through the step. The added layer is contoured to the shoe’s outline and finished in the sole colour, so on most sneakers and boots it looks like a thicker midsole. Nothing is bolted, nailed or stacked — the lift is bonded and becomes part of the sole.

For a 1″ lift we suggest honeycomb construction ($9.99): an internal honeycomb pattern that cuts weight without giving up strength. For sports or heavy work, rigid material ($19.99) adds stability. Every lift comes with our 100% satisfaction guarantee — not happy, we make it right.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

1 Inch Shoe Lift Questions

Click any question to expand the answer.

Is a 1 inch shoe lift the same as a 1 inch leg length difference?

Not necessarily. Many clinicians prescribe a lift smaller than the measured difference, especially for a difference you have had for years, and increase it gradually. Order the height your doctor or PT recommends; if you are measuring at home, use our guide to choosing the correct shoe lift height.

Will I walk differently with a 1 inch lift?

For the first few days you will notice it, then you stop noticing it. Because the lift is full-length and tapered, there is no tipping forward and no clunk at the heel. Our post on getting used to a shoe lift covers the typical adjustment.

Can a 1 inch lift go in a running shoe?

Yes. Running shoes are among the easiest shoes to build up because the midsole already hides the added layer. The cushioning stays where it is; the lift goes below it.

Is it visible?

On sneakers and boots, rarely. On a low dress shoe, the sole becomes visibly deeper — but colour-matched and shaped, so it looks intentional rather than added.

How much does a 1 inch shoe lift cost?

$84.99 per pair, shipping both ways included. Honeycomb +$9.99, rigid material +$19.99, removing an old lift +$19.99. Children’s shoes get $10 off. See the full pricing table.
